The main festivities in Teruel happen in early July and last for one week. Known as La Vaquilla del Ángel, these festivities honour the city’s patron saint.
They also celebrate Teruel’s founding, linked to the Torico legend. Music parades, evening dances, fireworks, and bulls in the streets are key features. Cultural groups, called peñas, in the historic city centre organise activities.
They make sure both young and old are entertained. The “Puesta del pañuelico” at the Torico marks the festival start on Saturday. If you aim to learn Spanish abroad, this is a vibrant cultural immersion.
The program of festivities of La Vaquilla of Teruel
The La Vaquilla festival begins in Plaza Mayor El Torico. Here, roped bulls are the main attraction. On day one, a traditional act takes place.
A member from one of the 21 peñas climbs the Torico column. He places a red handkerchief on the sculpture “El Torico.” To do this, he needs help from his mates, forming a human castle. When he reaches “El Torico,” he kisses it, pats its back, and shows the handkerchief.

This act signifies the beginning of the Great Festival.
The act of placing the red handkerchief marks the launch of the Great Festival. During the festival, Teruel’s Peñas take charge and roam the historic centre.
These cultural groups keep their energy high with various activities. The festival wraps up when a selected Peña takes down the handkerchief. They hand it back to the city’s mayor or mayoress, signifying the end.

We provide several courses to meet different learning objectives and needs. Two notable courses are Spanish DELE and SIELE.
The DELE (Diplomas of Spanish as a Foreign Language) and SIELE (International Spanish Language Evaluation Service) are both widely recognized assessments of Spanish language proficiency. While both aim to evaluate and certify language proficiency, they may have different focuses and target different audiences.
The DELE is an official certification issued by the Spanish Ministry of Education, Culture, and Sport. It is widely recognized and can be beneficial for those seeking to study or work in Spanish-speaking countries. The DELE assesses various language skills, including reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
On the other hand, SIELE is an internationally recognized certification for the Spanish language proficiency that is promoted by several prestigious institutions, including the Instituto Cervantes, the University of Salamanca, the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), and the University of Buenos Aires.
It also evaluates the four language skills, but it’s designed for a global audience, particularly for those seeking to study or work in various Spanish-speaking countries.
