Gideon’s Spanish Learning Adventure
Gideon, a young student, has a real passion for Spanish. Last year in Valencia with Pilar and this year, he chose Barcelona. He is taking a 2-year IGCSE Spanish course. He wants to do really well in his studies. Even though he is young, Gideon has traveled by himself to Spain for two years in a row.
I am really impressed by Gideon’s bravery. He joined our learning programs in both Valencia and Barcelona. This shows he really wants to learn Spanish well and understand Spain’s culture deeply. He aims to get great marks and learn a lot about Spanish ways.
His hard work and goals make him stand out, especially as he works towards his secondary education goals, including the International Baccalaureate and the International General Certificate.
Academic Focus and Cultural Immersion
In our sessions, we concentrated on the speaking component, tackling five key themes. At the same time, we applied these themes to the written component, preparing for both A-level exams, Paper 1 and Paper 2, concurrently. We talked about many things:
- Life at home and going places
- School and jobs, to show how well he can use Spanish
- Friends and family stories, to make his Spanish chatting better
- Big issues around the world, to help him use Spanish in bigger talks
- Fun activities, health, and staying fit, to see how Spanish is part of everyday stuff
This preparation, rich in crucial concepts and mathematical concepts, was aimed at fostering academic excellence across Gideon’s courses. By integrating these subjects into our preparation process, we ensured Gideon had all the necessary tools and key points for his A levels.
Spanish Express also support him in his journey towards achieving excellence in his secondary education and paving the way for success in the International Baccalaureate and the International General Certificate.
Challenges and Academic Improvement Strategies
Gideon shows a lot of dedication and effort in his studies. He always works hard. However, we’ve noticed he needs more help in some areas. To get better and build a stronger foundation, we suggest Gideon gets extra lessons after school. This can boost his knowledge and help him do even better in his studies.
We focus on giving Gideon feedback that helps him understand where he needs to improve. With final exams coming up, it’s important he uses this feedback in his preparation process. This way, he can meet the specific requirements needed for his qualifications.
Our goal is to help Gideon face these challenges with the right improvement strategies. This will prepare him well for his upcoming exam and ensure he understands the answers to tough questions.
Homestay Experiences and Bonding with Local Youth
Apart from our studies, Gideon and I had lots of fun times at my house with my family and our dogs, Rumba and Samba. Gideon got to meet one of my friend’s kids. They hung out together, watching rugby and having a great dinner. Gideon even went to Sandro’s school for a visit.
We also had an awesome day in Mataro. We ate a nice lunch, tried out the outdoor gym, and walked by the sea and the harbor. These experiences weren’t just about having fun; they were chances for Gideon to learn outside of class.
As his tutor, with years of teaching experience, I made sure these activities added to what he was taught in classes. And helping him become more rounded, not just as a student but as a person ready to graduate.
Cultural and Educational Exploration in Barcelona
Our journey also took us to some of the most famous spots in Barcelona, like La Sagrada Familia, the aquarium, and Las Ramblas. A special highlight for Gideon was seeing a boat from the 37th America’s Cup and checking out the items in the official shop, where he was really tempted to buy a lot.
This whole experience really helped Gideon feel more confident in using Spanish and being on his own in a new place.
Sandro, my friend’s son, came along with us too. They had a great time, laughing and making memories in the peaceful setting of Rukimon. This part of our program wasn’t just about seeing new places; it was a chance for cultural exploration.
We used resources from Cambridge and held workshops that linked what we saw to what Gideon was learning in school. It was a way to bring together teachers, schools, and all kinds of learning opportunities outside the classroom.
Visit to La Sagrada Familia
Our trip took us to the center of Barcelona, a place full of history and beauty. We started our day at La Sagrada Familia, a famous building known for its stunning architecture.
Gideon was amazed by the tall towers and detailed work on the building, a true piece of art by the architect Gaudí. Inside, we looked around at the large space and the light coming through the colorful windows, making everything look magical.
This visit was not just about seeing a beautiful place. It was a chance for Gideon to learn about architecture and design. He got to see firsthand how concepts he might only read about in books are used in real buildings.
This experience is part of getting the qualifications he’s working towards, showing him how what he learns in class can be found in the world around him.
Exploration of Port Vell
After visiting La Sagrada Familia, we explored more of Barcelona, walking through the lively streets and feeling the city’s pulse. We made our way to Port Vell, a beautiful harbor by the sea.
Walking by the water, Gideon was captivated by the views and the peaceful feeling of the place. He took lots of pictures, wanting to remember every detail.
This part of our day was about more than just seeing new places. It was a chance for Gideon to learn about the history and culture of Barcelona. Every step and every photo told a story, helping him understand the words and ideas that matter when talking about different cultures.
This exploration was a key part of his learning, showing him the real-life settings of the concepts we discussed in class.
Experience at the 37th America’s Cup
At Barcelona’s Port Vell, a highlight was seeing a boat from the 37th America’s Cup. We also went into the official shop, and Gideon was really interested in all the items for sale. This experience was a standout moment in our Barcelona adventure.
Visiting the America’s Cup area wasn’t just exciting; it was educational. It gave us a chance to talk about business studies, teamwork, and strategy. These are important ideas in both sports and in class.
Seeing the teamwork involved in the America’s Cup helped Gideon understand how people work together to achieve big goals. This visit also showed how preparation and strategy are used in real life, just like in business studies.
Lunch at Maremagnum and Aquarium Visit
After exploring, we headed to the Maremagnum center, a place full of life, right by the sea. Here, we enjoyed a delicious seafood lunch, tasting the wonderful flavors of the sea and enjoying the breeze.
Feeling full and happy, we next visited the Barcelona Aquarium. Going into this underwater world, Gideon was amazed by all the sea life, from the bright coral to the smooth-moving sea turtles. He was really into learning about the creatures we saw, looking at everything with so much interest.
These visits were more than just fun. They were a chance for Gideon to see real-life chemistry and biology, like how food science comes into play with our seafood lunch or understanding the biology of sea life at the aquarium.
We even talked about some practice questions related to what we saw, making our day not just an adventure but a learning experience too. Our time in Barcelona, filled with joy, learning, and friendship, made a lasting impression on us.
Outdoor Activities and Lunch in Mataró
Our adventure in Mataró turned out to be an incredible day! Gideon and Sandro had a blast at the outdoor gym, engaging in fun competitions and challenges. Their energy and excitement turned the workout session into a playful and enjoyable experience for everyone.
After a good session of exercise, we were all ready for some food. I took them to a lovely restaurant near the Mataró port, offering stunning views of the sea. The meal was delicious, and the atmosphere was filled with our laughter and stories, strengthening the bond of friendship and teamwork among us.
This day wasn’t just about having fun; it was a great example of physical education and the importance of sports and teamwork in our daily lives. Engaging in these outdoor activities helped Gideon and Sandro learn the value of working together and staying active, lessons that are as important outside the classroom as they are inside.
Visit to Rukimon Donkey Reserve
Seeing Gideon’s love for animals, I took him to Rukimon, a special place near us that looks after donkeys from this area.
Rukimon is unique in Spain for its dedication to donkey care and conservation. It’s a place where these friendly animals get the protection they need. Visitors like us can get close to the donkeys, feed them, and even help by sponsoring a donkey in need.
Gideon absolutely loved our visit to Rukimon. He was so happy to spend time with the donkeys, feeding them and petting them. The donkeys were just as happy to get his attention and snacks. This visit was more than just fun.
It showed Gideon the importance of caring for animals, the science of biology in real life, and how we can help conserve wildlife. His interest in animal welfare grew even stronger after this experience.
Integration and Local Life Experiences in Dosrius
During Gideon’s visit, he formed a close friendship with Sandro, my friend’s son. Together, they enjoyed many activities, laughing and creating lasting memories.
A special moment was when Gideon joined Sandro’s family for a meal. They welcomed him warmly, sharing a meal while watching rugby. This friendly get-together was full of lively chat and the joy of the game.
Gideon also spent half a day at Sandro’s school, getting to know the local students and the school routine. This experience let him see the local community’s way of life, giving him a closer look at our traditions and culture.
At our house, family dinners brought us all closer. Gideon felt right at home, sharing stories and feeling part of our community. This wasn’t just a visit but an in-depth look at our local life, helping Gideon understand the importance of community and traditions.
Gideon’s stay with us went beyond regular tourism. He lived like a local, making friends and experiencing everyday life.
This journey enriched him, blending learning with personal growth, preparing him for academic challenges at universities, especially in economics and physics, and equipping him with the necessary tools for his IB and IGCSE exams.
