In the following sections, I’ll share 11 tips to help you stick to your resolution and successfully learn Spanish this year.
Let’s turn hope into action and make learning Spanish a rewarding part of your 2024.
1. Break Your Resolution into Smaller Steps
It’s not just one year, it’s 12 months and every month has 4 weeks. So rather than consider learning Spanish in 1 year, think of it my way.
Consider yourself a complete beginner in the first two months, and create your planner accordingly. Start with one Spanish word at a time. As a matter of fact, it helps you feel accomplished every day, and you keep going.
Group some related Spanish verbs together and learn them on consecutive days. Similarly, whatever you do, creating small lessons and looking at examples will help you understand the content better.
After all, you’re a beginner, and you need time to digest this whole new language.
For upcoming months, keep adding more challenging tasks to your planner, and you will make it.
2. Memorise the Most Common Spanish Verbs
Now that you have divided your time and distributed your tasks let’s start the real game.
Learn the most commonly used Spanish words and learn their usage. Many online YouTube Channels and blogs will teach you these words.
This will help you understand the basic language and you will be able to speak Spanish using these words. Yes! It will boost your confidence that you know a lot about this language.

You can use any available app to make your to-do list in this regard that’s totally up to you. Even for this task, you don’t need a school or any other institute.
4. Watch a Spanish Movie Every Week
So, it’s not just learning and memorising terms, you must know the real-world context of using those terms or get to know the Spanish culture.
For that purpose, watching a Spanish movie every week is enough. There are numerous Spanish movies that you can watch as a beginner to learn about the culture and history.
Or let’s add music to make it even more effective. Spanish music and its sound will help you learn proper pronunciation and fluency so you can practice what you are learning throughout the year.

Find one that suits your level. Listen to them while doing chores, during your commute, or even as a bedtime story. You’ll really be amazed at how much you can learn just by listening.
And remember one thing! You don’t need to understand every single word of it. You just need to familiarise yourself with the sound of the language, and its rhythm. Plus, you might learn some new words and that’s all.
So, why not give it a try? Turn on a podcast, sit back, and let the language flow over you. Before you know it, you’ll be catching phrases, laughing at jokes, and maybe even dreaming in Spanish.

7. Take Online Spanish Lessons (if Possible from Local Teachers)
Now after learning basic words and familiarising yourself with the language, you should connect with a local Spanish teacher online. Mark my words, the tutor must be local from Spain.
Why do I emphasize this? Cause they will teach you in the real world context and even speaking with them is a lesson in itself.
We at Spanish Express teach millions of students and our teachers are the local certified tutors. Our local Spanish teachers, craft an effective plan as per your level of Spanish and individual needs. Since we’re a SIELE-accredited centre, we help you in your exam as well.

8. Connect with Fellow Spanish Learners in Online Communities
There are numerous online communities available where you will see groups of Spanish learners. These communities are the best opportunity to connect with fellow learners.
Imagine exchanging tips, asking questions, and even practising Spanish with learners from around the world. These groups, found on platforms like Facebook or language learning forums, are goldmines for resources and support.
9. Befriend with Local Spanish People on Social Media
What is the use of social networking if you don’t employ it to fulfil your New Year’s resolution? This year, make sure to connect with hundreds of local Spanish residents and keep in touch with them.
Comment on their posts, engage in their groups and tag them in your own posts.
At the end of this journey, you will not only be fluent in Spanish but will have some good local friends and connections.
10. Speak Spanish to Yourself in a Mirror
Have you ever felt underconfident or shy speaking a new language just because you don’t know much about it? Or felt lost in the words?
Most of the beginners struggle with “passive fluency” and “stuttering.” Passive fluency is when you understand a language very well but can’t speak it fluently. Stuttering is where you repeatedly produce the “uh” or other sounds just because words keep interrupting you.
Both of these situations have the same resolution. Speak to yourself and practise without the fear of being judged. Talk to yourself in the mirror. Just tell any story from the past or vent out your daily stress.
What matters the most is “you’re practising and becoming better with your spoken words.” And believe me, it’s magical.
11. Immerse Yourself in Spanish Culture for a Week AT Least
Now after everything else, here comes the peak of your Spanish journey. You have learned enough about theory, you’re done with mirror talking. Now is the time to get your feet into a Spanish land.
This is the time to come out of your comfort zone and immerse yourself in the local Spanish culture. This is the time to fly away from your roots. Not for too long but for 1 to 4 weeks.
We have thousands of students at Spanish Express who started their journey as beginners through online Spanish Classes and then rewarded themselves with the Spanish Homestay Immersion Programme (SHIP).
It’s a programme where you live in your teacher’s home and study Spanish with each step you take. You speak in Spanish, sleep in Spanish, breathe in Spanish and eat Spanish. Yes, you do…!
Our host teacher helps you explore Spanish history and culture and let you taste Spanish Gastronomy. And at the end, you get a certificate which proves to be a milestone in your career.
