A Comprehensive and Engaging Cambridge IGCSE Spanish Curriculum
Access, course duration, and study time
- Adults do not need any previous qualifications to enroll in this IGCSE course. However, it is recommended that students have at least an elementary level of Spanish.
- This course can be completed in one or two years and is designed for teenage students who have completed Year 9 in the UK or abroad, making it ideal for homeschooling students. As learners progress through their studies in the Cambridge IGCSE Spanish – Foreign Language (0530) syllabus, they build on the linked language skills of listening, reading, speaking, and writing.
- Teenage secondary school students can also participate in after-school revision lessons during the academic year, half term, Christmas, or summer breaks.
- The recommended study time for this course is 150 hours, with additional time allocated for completing assignments and practicing past papers.

Content and assessment overview
The Pearson Edexcel Level 3 Advanced GCE in Spanish consists of two externally examined papers assessing listening, reading, and writing and a speaking assessment. The speaking assessment is externally set and conducted by a teacher-examiner*. All assessments are marked by Pearson.
In any year, students must complete their speaking assessment in April/May and all other assessments in May/June.
*It is usual for teachers to conduct the speaking assessment with their students during a timetabled assessment window in April/May.
Paper 1: Listening Exam

Many students find the listening exam challenging due to the accents, sounds, and rhythm of the Spanish language. To improve, it is recommended to use listening exercises on various topics to train one’s ears.

Paper 2: Reading and Writing

Assessment overview
The examination consists of three tasks (A, B, and C). Students present and answer questions about a picture related to one of the topic areas. They also discuss two different topics, chosen at random by Pearson.
The assessments are conducted by teachers in one session within a prescribed assessment window. The recordings are then submitted to Pearson for external marking.

The learning format is online by taking live classes with our native Spanish teacher-examiners and interactive exercises, assignments, past papers, and mock exams to ensure students are ready for the big day. Alternatively, students can participate in our Spanish Homestay Immersion Program in different destinations in Spain, where they live, and Study Spanish for IGCSE with our native Spanish teacher-examiners based in Spain.
